__FORCETOC__

== The Livian Heresy ==

Perhaps the most persistent and widespread of all Sanctified heresies still extant, the Livian Heresy takes its name from Livia, who is identified in Malediction as a Roman harlot who gave birth to Longinus. Supporters of the heresy point out that, while Longinus did not feel the need to give his own birth name in Malediction, he did feel compelled to identify his mother and talk about her at some length. Livians also point to interpretations of the passages surrounding Longinus’ conception and birth (interpretations rejected by mainstream Sanctified) that suggest that it may have been contemporaneous with that of Jesus.

In fact, while Livia quite clearly was not a virgin when she conceived Longinus, one verse of Malediction can be interpreted to mean that Longinus did not have a mortal father. According to the Livians, all of this means that the mother of Longinus is much more important to the creation of the Lancea Sanctum that is commonly believed.

Such heretics argue that Livia actually performed a similar role to that of Mary, and that both Christianity and the Lancea Sanctum rely on the simultaneous existence of both Madonna and Whore, each giving birth to sons who would meet at the cross, in fulfilment of prophecy. As such, according to followers of the Heresy, Livia deserves veneration as the “Mother of Vampires”.

Indeed, the most pernicious adherents of the Livian heresy go beyond merely elevating Livia above Longinus to suggesting that both Livia and Mary are aspects of a single archetypal goddess figure. Some such heretics go so far as to attempt to reconcile the beliefs of the Lancea Sanctum with certain tenets of the Circle of the Crone.

Thus, the Livian Heresy is actually a double heresy: Faithful members of both covenants look on Livians with horror for their efforts to combine "the true faith" with a "false religion." As if this were not bad enough Livians who formerly followed the Crone and Livians who formerly followed Longinus occasionally teach other Cruac and Theban Sorcery, revealing the most important mysteries of each religion to members of its chief spiritual rival.

One of the few things that can induce Sanctified and Acolytes to put aside their differences is the possibility of Livian heretics active in their domain.

== The Livian Creed ==

As submitted by Brother Tolerance, Priest of Columbus:

I believe in the Crone, the Mother almighty, creator of Heaven and Earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, one of Her Sons, who was conceived by the power of the Her Will and born of the Virgin Mary to redeem Man from Sin through his death and resurrection.

I believe that Longinus (born of the Blessed Livia), by piercing the Jesus' side as he hung from the Cross, did reveal the partial divinity of Jesus Christ through fulfilment of the prophecies and that, while Longinus was rightly Damned for his blasphemy, his damnation was itself part of His Holy

Plan.

I believe that those so Damned are the agents of the Crone's Will, chosen to receive the Embrace that we may test the faithful and revel in the divinity within each of them.

I believe that the Crone has provided other deitys, lesser gods and goddesses , which we revere and serve with respect, so that we may continually maintain our focus on our purpose in His Holy Plan with vigilant guidance.

I believe that for my sins I am damned to Hell and yet through damnation I may find my purpose in Her Holy Plan.

So Mote it Be!

== Alternate Livian Creed ==

I believe in God, the Father in Heaven

I believe in the Crone, the Mother on Earth

I believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary, born to redeem Man from sin, through his crucifixion and resurrection

I believe in Longinus, Son of Man, born of the Whore Livia, born to validates his divinity by piercing Christ's side, and for this received Damnation

I believe in that without the Madonna and the Whore, the fulfillment of prophesy could not been attained

I believe in that without the Sons, the salvation of man and purpose of damnation would not have occurred

I believe that for my sins, I was damned, but in my damnation, I am not alone

I have a Father that watches over me from heaven above

I have a Mother that embraces me in the darkness of the night

And for this, I will serve them and their purpose for as long as I am damned
