Creeds are a matter of belief. Factions are a matter of how one acts on that belief. They do not necessarily exist as unified groups, or hold secret meetings, but they have a very real effect on the Lancea Sanctum overall.

Unlike with creeds, which are almost entirely exclusive, an individual sanctified can be part of many factions and societies. A neo-reformist hardliner makes no sense, but a proselyte hardliner exorcist among the Lamia Monastica does.

== Major Factions ==
The major factions represent mainstream philosophies within the Covenant. Most are not national networks of any sort, but simply descriptors that are widely understood within the covenant. "That guy's a real hardliner, huh?"

This doesn't imply universal agreement within a major faction. A hardliner Monachal and a hardliner Iblic may be at each others throat, each convinced of his own absolute righteousness. Proselytes of different factions may come to resent the other spreading the "wrong" word.

Minor factions are more akin to social or professional clubs than major ideological philosophies. They have fewer members than the major factions, and more narrow viewpoints. They have specialized fields of interest, which limits members, but they are also more organized

What minor factions are, societies are more so. They tend to be even smaller, perhaps only a single coterie, and to have very specific views. An example might be a specialized cell of a particular creed, or an organized order of Sanctified sharing the same purpose and goals. The Societies listed on this page are all suggested options currently, and none of them have or need formal Storyteller approval, as they are IC creations by current PCs. Currently there is quite a bit of IC confusion and conflict over the existence of these societies. Caveat Emptor.

Coteries are much smaller than societies, though are frequently microcosms of their larger equivalents, espousing a unifying purpose, sharing practices and providing community for their members. Most coteries form organically between groups of kindred, and many exist as unspoken bonds of brotherhood. The groups below, however, are "open coteries," which invite involvement from new, qualified Kindred and might someday become Societies among the LS.
