A creed is a formal statement of doctrine or a particular system of belief. Within the Lancea Sanctum, a creed is defined by a particular interpretation of the Canons from the Sanguineous Catechism, characteristic rituals and traditions, and doctrine regarding the role of Longinus and kindred.

Creed is a personal matter for each Sanctifed. Even widespread beliefs have not always been accepted by the Covenant as a whole. The Iblic Creed was drafted in 1420, but was not fully accepted until the 19th Century. The Dammitic Creed was created in the 18th Century, but is still viewed with suspicion in some conservative parishes.

However, creed is essentially an exclusive belief system for an individual. One can cannot simultaneous be Monachal and Iblic, just like one cannot simutaneously believe that Jesus was the only son of God, and that he was only one prophet among several. An individual may combine practices of multiple creeds in their personal philosophy, but this is effectively following a new ceed rather than accepting multiple creeds. Most choose to follow an existing creed.

Whether a creed is accepted can change over time and from parish to parish. Personal politics and number of followers both play an important part. With the Ninth Canon, a creed being accepted may just be a matter of enough Bishops accepting it as valid. However, if enough regard it as far outside of allowable beliefs, it is labeled a Heresy.

The descriptions below list the beliefs of the creed, what canons it follows, its doctrine (the actual Creed itself), its rituals and traditions, and any known followers.

Major creeds are widely accepted and practiced in the Lance Sanctum (even if they aren't well represented by PCs). Individual Bishops or Sanctifed may still disagree and disallow them, as is sometimes the case wht the Iblics, Dammitics and Exotheists in the modern nights, but overall the covenant has decided they are not heresy.

== Minor Creeds ==
Minor creeds are in a delicate postion. They don't have the numbers to be accepted as a major creed, but they have not yet been declared a heresy. The court of public opinion has not yet ruled on their validity, and so they remain in place, but uncertain of their future.

Minor creeds that are judged to differ too far from the teachings of Longinus and the goals of the covenant become heresies. Usually this is in the form of a pronouncement from a number of leaders of the covenant such as several Cardinals. However, these luminaries are politically savvy enough to recognize that it is the will of the Covenant itself which make the beliefs heresy, not simply orders from on high.
